Mary R. Jeka Announced as Rogerson Communities Board Chair

Rogerson Communities, the leading support organization for older adults in the Boston area, is proud to announce Mary R. Jeka, J.D. as its new Board Chair, overseeing the most diverse Board in the organization’s 165-year history.
Mary, Senior Vice President for University Relations and General Counsel at Tufts University, has been a valued member of the Rogerson Board since 2019. Before her work at Tufts, she was a principal aide and General Counsel to the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy, (D-Mass), having worked with him on appropriations, education, environmental, transportation and health care issues, and became General Counsel of the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee.
She has also held other general counsel positions with the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) as well as the Massachusetts Health and Educational Facilities Authority (HEFA). She brings this extensive experience, and passion for improving the quality of life for seniors, to her new role as Board Chair, and is committed to advancing Rogerson’s mission of ensuring that every older adult feels valued and can age with dignity in their community.
“I am honored to step into this role and continue the incredible work that Rogerson began more than a century ago,” said Mary. “Our seniors deserve dignity and stability, and I look forward to working with the Board and the entire team to ensure we continue to meet these critical needs.”
As Rogerson – which recently adopted a comprehensive and ambitious five-year strategic plan – continues its growth, Mary’s leadership will be crucial in steering the organization toward its goals. She will be focused on initiatives aimed at expanding services, advocating for supportive affordable housing policies, and fostering partnerships that enhance the organization’s reach and resources.
“We are delighted to welcome Mary as our new Board Chair,” said President and CEO Walter J. Ramos. “Her leadership and deep understanding of the challenges seniors face when it comes to affordable housing will be instrumental in guiding our efforts and expanding our impact.”
The leadership transition at Rogerson also honors the remarkable service of outgoing Board Chair Brit d’Arbeloff, who shepherded the organization’s meteoric rise over the last 11 years. Brit brought to Rogerson a dedication to championing those who are underrepresented. Her unique and diverse skill set made her a strong leader and enabled Rogerson to flourish. Under her stewardship, the organization expanded its services, strengthened its partnerships, and improved the quality of life for countless older adults in the Commonwealth.
“We are deeply grateful for Brit’s contributions to our organization,” said Walter. “Through her leadership, we have been able to create stronger, more vibrant communities for our residents. Brit’s legacy will be one filled with passion and commitment, and her efforts will have an impact on older adults for decades to come.”
