The organization will also honor Katie with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her storied career of advocating for older adults across the country. “Katie has been an important partner of Rogerson for years and is a passionate steward of our mission,” says Walter Ramos, President and CEO of Rogerson Communities. “We are thrilled to celebrate her and hear from her at our annual...
Jeffrey Sacks, Senior Counsel at Nixon Peabody, to be Honored with Rogerson Communities’ Highest Recognition
Rogerson Communities is proud to announce that Jeffrey W. Sacks and Nixon Peabody will be recognized with the Charles E. Rogerson Award, the organization’s most prestigious honor. Jeff Sacks’s career spans more than forty years of dedicated service in affordable housing, during which he has been an important attorney for, and great friend to, Rogerson Communities. Since his first work for Rogerson in the 1980s at Peter Faneuil House, the Joy Street Residence, and Beacon House, his work has positively impacted older adults across the region. He is a household name in affordable housing and a more-than-deserving honoree of this...
A Day to Remember at the 2025 Rogerson ADH Prom
Prom season remained in full swing in mid-June at Rogerson Communities’ Adult Day Health (ADH) program. The older adult participants in this important support program have enjoyed this Rogerson tradition for the last eight years (with a brief hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic). As guests started arriving for the prom, there was definitely a different energy in the air than most days at ADH. For one thing, instead of entering the usual activity and exercise rooms, they filed into the auditorium housed at Rogerson’s administrative office. The lofty space was set up with long tables topped with decorations, and masses...
State Rep. Livingstone Connects With Beacon House Residents
State Representative Jay Livingstone paid a visit to his constituents at Rogerson Communities’ Beacon House on May 20.
Rolling Up Their Sleeves
On a recent, unseasonably chilly spring morning, Brent Berc crouched on a Beacon Hill sidewalk, applying rust-treatment paint to an iron garden fence along Joy Street, trying to avoid getting any on the bricks beneath. He isn’t part of a maintenance crew or neighborhood association — he’s a founding partner at Boston Real Estate Collaborative LLC, and he serves on the Board of Trustees of Rogerson Communities. Brent had come to Beacon Hill along with seven employees from his firm for a morning of volunteer work at three buildings: Beacon House and the Joy Street Residence, both Rogerson properties for...
A Community of Opportunity
Ask Carlos Diaz, maintenance supervisor at Rogerson Communities’ Farnsworth House, what’s most important to him, and he won’t miss a beat: “Opportunity.” Finding and building on opportunities have played a large role in shaping Carlos’s life, starting in 1989 with a journey to the United States from Guatemala, where he was born and raised. Though trained as a diesel mechanic, he initially took whatever work he could find in the Greater Boston area, from poultry processor to construction welder, in order to pay rent and save some money. Within a year he was serving part-time as a maintenance worker at...
Rogerson President & CEO Walter Ramos Addresses RWU Graduates During Commencement
Walter Ramos, President and CEO of Rogerson Communities, was tapped by his alma mater Roger Williams University to deliver an address to its graduating class welcoming them into its alumni association. Addressing a crowd of nearly 1300 graduates and their loved ones, Walter, who graduated from RWU in 1983 with a degree in Political Science and Law, shared his story – from the seats in which the class of 2025 were sitting to the stage speaking before them, overcoming challenges and obstacles along the way. “Life and career paths almost never happen as you expect and never without turns and...
Liberty Mutual Volunteers Bring Energy to Rogerson’s Adult Day Health Program
The activity room at Rogerson Communities’ Adult Day Health Program (ADH) is a popular gathering place for participants in Roslindale. It’s a space for friends to meet, chat, play a game or do some reading. On this day, however, the room was even livelier than usual — five volunteers from insurance company Liberty Mutual were joining the older adults in attendance to make art, play bingo, share a meal, and socialize. Rogerson’s ADH offers comprehensive services to older adults five days a week, from health and wellness support to social engagement, special outings, nutritious meals, and memory care. As participants...
Finding Home at Rogerson’s Adult Day Health Program
Peter C. can be found wheeling around Rogerson’s Adult Day Health Program at 23 Florence Street every one of the five days a week that it’s open. He comes for many reasons — filling meals, companionship with friends, engaging activities — but mostly because to him, it feels like home. Peter came to Boston from his native Grenada in his early twenties. Though New England could not have been more different from the Caribbean island of his birth, he settled in Roxbury and considered himself at home. About 13 years ago, however, tragedy struck — Peter’s house burned down, and...
