Farnsworth House opened in 1982 to provide rent-subsidized one- and two-bedroom apartments for income-eligible frail elders and others with disabilities.The Farnsworth Housing Corporation owns the building, which has been managed by Rogerson Communities since it opened.

Beginning in 1979, Rogerson Communities provided development planning services for Farnsworth House to the Farnsworth Housing Corporation, which was the first program spawned by the Farnsworth Trust.

PUBLIC EVENTS
Farnsworth House offers many ongoing events for elders in Jamaica Plain.

Blood Pressure Screenings
Free blood pressure screenings, open to the public, are held monthly on the first Tuesday at Farnsworth House.

Hot Lunch Served Daily
Community members ages 60 and over are invited to enjoy a hot lunch, served daily from noon to 1 p.m. at Farnsworth House. Come at 11:30 a.m. for coffee and conversation. Suggested donation is $1.50.

Music and Dance Program Every Sunday
Community members are invited to participate in a music and dance program featuring a local DJ every Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Farnsworth House. Refreshments are served and donations are encouraged.

Rosary Every Monday
A recitation of the Rosary, open to the public, takes place every Monday at 7p.m. at Farnsworth House.

Taxi Coupons for Elders

Elders in the community can receive taxi coupons every other month at Farnsworth House.

Yoga for Elders Every Wednesday
Elders in the community can participate in a beginner level yoga class designed for elders with instructor Patrice Flesch every Wednesday from 2-3 p.m. at Farnsworth House.

Farnsworth House Senior Club Trips
Elders in the community can sign up for monthly trips to destinations throughout Massachusetts and New England with the Senior Club at Farnsworth House. Trips occur every third Wednesday of the month from April through November and include one round trip coach ticket and a sit down meal. Rates subject to change.

Ceramics Class
Community members can participate in a ceramics class presented by the Clayroom at Farnsworth House the second Friday of each month at 1 p.m. Participants purchase their ceramic piece and painting supplies are provided.
