Council
Tower, a 17-story elevator building, is owned by
Council of Elders Housing Corporation, a community based organization
affiliated with Forward, Inc. The HUD-supported building,
which recently celebrated the completion of a $4.3 million
renovation, gives low-income residents the opportunity to
live in safe and decent housing in the Roxbury area of the
city.
Council
Tower offers 144 subsidized units for elders: 116 one-bedrooms
and 28 efficiencies. Each apartment floor has ten apartments,
except the second floor, which has four apartments. Eight
units are specially designed for use by individuals confined
to wheelchairs. The nonrevenue unit was designed for live-in
staff.
The
building also includes community space, a kitchen and laundry
room; and on the first floor, mailboxes and office space.
A
variety of events at Council Tower provide elderly and handicapped
residents with the opportunity to have positive interaction
with each other and with family, friends and guests. Management
and residents help each other promote and enhance the quality
of life.
