The Joy Street Residence is an affordable, supportive,
sober and drug-free independent residence for low-income persons from
all walks of life who are disabled by HIV/AIDS.
The wide array of support services respect the dignity, privacy and
self-determination of each resident.
The Joy Street Residence offers four two-bedroom, 10 one-bedroom and
six studio units. Three of the one-bedroom apartments are barrier free.
Residents pay 30 percent of adjusted gross household income toward rent.
Close to Government Center, Downtown Crossing, Boston Common, public
transportation and the Massachusetts General Hospital, all apartments
have central air conditioning, laundry, trash compacting and elevator
service. All units are prewired for cable television.
Some apartments are furnished.
On-Site Services
Staff from the AIDS Action Committee work with each resident to prepare
a service plan to help meet medical, financial, emotional and other basic
daily needs. Services include:
- Homemaking support
- Case management
- Transportation to and from medical appointments
- On-site support staff
- Financial and legal counseling
